Have a job (or thinking about getting one) requiring you to commute by car? Or would you just prefer to commute that way? Colorado’s diverse economy offers employment and business opportunities in a wide variety of fields, including technology and aerospace (I-25, I-70, and U.S. 36), military and defense (I-25 and Powers Boulevard), fossil fuels and renewables (I-70 and U.S. 85), and agriculture and ranching (I-76 and U.S. 287).
In Colorado, all new drivers, regardless of age, must obtain an instruction permit to practice supervised driving before they can take the drive (road) test for a driver’s license. The requirements for obtaining an instruction permit include being at least 15 years old, passing a vision test, and passing a written knowledge test on safe driving. (You may take the knowledge test online.) You must also obtain consent from a parent or guardian if you’re under 18. You must also complete a driver’s education course before your drive test if you’re under 16½.
The Colorado DMV written test has 25 questions covering road signs and signals, driving under the influence, driving rules, safety rules, and legal items. All questions are based on the official driver’s manual (Colorado DMV Handbook (CO Driver's Manual) 2025). The passing score is 80%.
This is the second of our five Colorado Permit Practice Tests. We designed all of them to help aspiring drivers like you pass the DMV knowledge test on your first try. These practice tests are up to date as of March 2025 and based on the official Colorado driver’s manual. All practice questions are multiple choice. You must choose the best or most complete answer for each question.
As you take this practice test, you can call on our AI Assistant for help with any question. You can ask it to give you a hint or explain the question in greater depth. You can also ask your own questions about driving. Watch the Progress Bar to track your score as you go through the test. When you answer a question correctly, the question number will turn green. If you miss the question, the question number will turn red, and the AI Assistant will give you the correct answer and an explanation.
Please also read our Colorado DMV Permit Test Study Guide. It lists things you should do as your exam day approaches. It covers how to prepare your mind and body to ace the written knowledge test, what documents to have with you, what fees you may have to pay, and other last-minute test tips.
